The WinterHaven Hotel, the newest hotel on Ocean Drive, is now open following a two-year, top-to-bottom renovation of its dramatic lobby and guest rooms. The hotel, located at Ocean Drive and 14th Street, is directly across the street from the Atlantic Ocean, and features ocean views from most of its guest rooms. The hotel is within walking distance of all the shops, cafes and clubs of South Beach.

When the WinterHaven Hotel opened in 1939 it was advertised as an "ultra modern" hotel with "large outside rooms," "a skytop solarium," "spacious lobby and mezzanine," "large veranda overlooking the ocean," and "USD 1 per night" rates.The meticulous restoration has preserved everything except the USD 1 per night rates! The hotel was designed by Albert Anis, one of the top Art Deco architects, in the streamlined style of the day. The WinterHaven's restoration focused on the hotel's dramatic double-height lobby, winding staircase, original glass-ball railings and multi-level mezzanine. Decorative details such as the ornate Chinese mirrored panels, and the etched glass recessed wall panels were meticulously restored. Exact replicas were made of the original chandeliers, sconces, and maple and mirror registration desk. A new wood and glass bar curves along one wall. The Art Deco interior is stylish yet understated to allow the architecture to shine. The new furniture combines maple, leather and fabric. The aerodynamic club chairs are clothed in russet leather, with sofas and dining chairs upholstered in deep jewel tones - garnet, aquamarine, emerald and amethyst.

Room information

Most of the guest rooms feature ocean views. Top-of-the-line are the oceanfront rooms with spectacular beach and ocean views, one-or-2 bedroom oceanfront suites with spacious corner bedrooms and adjoining parlors. All guest rooms are decorated in custom designed Art Deco style furniture upholstered in soothing tones of soft green, ginger and cream.

The Winterhaven Martini Bar is open daily from 4:30 pm to 11:00 pm.

The downtown Miami business district, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Miami International Airport are all within a 15 to 20 minute drive.
